Investors in real estate may want to consider that there are at least four categories of real estate to consider, each with its own unique characteristics. I’ve had a little experience in each category.
- Residential – the most common for individual investors. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in about a dozen single family homes and two duplexes. Most were hands-on full house renovations.
- Commercial – the focus of my early career experience, often through public syndicated partnerships
- Land – farmland, timberland, pasture, wetland are some of the common types.
- Niche – including aquaculture zones, water rights, and working waterfront, This has been my focus for the past fifteen years.
